So that's where they keep the broccoli!

Michelle Obama and Mexican First Lady Margarita Zavala visited Lily's school today. Apparently the school has won a healthy food award, which I find surprising since Lily raves about the cinammon buns and chocolate milk. We send lunch from home almost every day. The two first ladies played in the gym with some 2nd graders, and ate lunch with the Head Start kids. There was fresh broccoli. Really. And only white skim milk. Curiously, not a cinammon bun in sight.

Meanwhile, Lily was in lockdown in her classroom where they gave her PB&J and probably sugar cubes smeared with Fluffernutter on a bed of Fruit Loops.

On a serious note, you may have seen the news that a second grader asked Mrs. Obama why the president was deporting anyone without papers, and then said that her mother didn't have the right papers. Ooops.

I hope nothing happens to the family. I like what the principal was quoted as saying in the AP story:

School Principal Jane Litchko said 81 percent of her school was at the poverty level, with a heavily international population that was 65 percent Hispanic, but that the school nevertheless had "some of the highest test scores in the county. I think that's the story."

Me too.

I spoke too soon

And the die-off begins. This poor little guy finally lost his tail, and then we found him floating belly up tonight.
